One of the main attractions of the Xbox in the last console generation was online play, and just how easy it was to connect with others around the world. Numerous games on the console like Halo , Call of Duty and Gears of War kept players up at night because online gaming was streamlined. Of course, for the Xbox One and the rest of the current generation of consoles, matchmaking in still around, and more people are playing online with each other. Matchmaking‘s performance varies, depending on the game being played, though when it’s working, there’s very little discussion about it.

Matchmaking isn’t going away, but that doesn’t mean there couldn’t be other ways to find players to play with. As it stands right now, matchmaking brings strangers together to play for a time; but what if there was a way to find other like-minded players? This is where a new Xbox One app known called Overdog comes in.

Interestingly enough, it isn’t integrated with specific games, and is more like a new social media app that people can use to make new friends. Stop letting the console tell you who to play with. Game with people who feel like friends.

Overdog matchmaking app to pair up online players with similar interests

Overdog is a new third-party matchmaking service for Xbox One that incorporates Facebook-style profile information to find you multiplayer buddies that share your interests. Sign up for the free service and you can fill in details on your favourite movies, TV shows, music and sports teams. You can then search for people who want to play the same games as you – to finish a raid in Destiny, for example – and receive matches that also share similar hobbies.

The idea behind the service is to take away some of the randomness of partying up with other people – and to find folk who aren’t a year-old Justin Bieber-loving troll from Texas.

First, select a number of entertainment interests from a small supplied list. Step two is selecting the sort of games you’d like to play with fans of Parks and Rec and GotG.

Of course it’s not a choice, but an error, which the folks at Overdog are working to fix. Thank goodness they launched to Dashboard Preview Program members first!

Overdog Launches New Interest-Based Matchmaking for Xbox One

A new app called Overdog is launching for the Xbox One home console from Microsoft and the unique thing about the service is that it is designed to allow gamers to find new partners for multiplayer gaming by using their social network information. The team working on the concept says that it will allow the real world persona of the player to become involved in their choice of multiplayer partners.

Overdog is offered for free and will take into account information like the movies, the television shots, the games and the sports team a gamer likes, although the app is not limited to only entertainment-based data. In the end, the company wants its app on everything.

Eric Doty, Director of User Acquisition at Overdog, puts it like this: “Xbox One has one of the most active game communities in the industry, but.

Nashville-based startup Overdog wants to change how online matchmaking works and just received almost two million dollars in funding to create a better matchmaking tool for Xbox One. For some time now, Xbox has been seen as a mixed bag when it comes to game skills and social skills when looking for people to play against online. The result: most people mute other players in Call of Duty or they will only ever play with their friends.

But what happens when nobody is online? Might end up with a group of overachievers or a total clownfest. The aim of the app is to ensure that like-minded and similarly skilled players will be matched up together. The Overdog system is designed a great deal like a dating app the original matchmaking and cues in on hobbies and preferences such as sports, music, gaming, celebrities, websites and entertainment. Instead of playing with anonymous rabble, Overdog users can meet like-minded people and play their favorite games for example, FIFA, Madden, or Call of Duty.

A platform that makes who you are in the real world relevant to your gamer-self is long overdue.
